Vote by Mail
Voting by mail is a service provided for registered voters who wish to vote in the comfort of their homes or for those who may be away from Jefferson County during an election. A Vote-by-Mail ballot may be requested for either a specific election or for all Jefferson County elections through the end of the calendar year of the next regularly scheduled General Election.
The deadline to request that a Vote-by-Mail ballot be mailed to you is 5:00 PM on the 12th day prior to Election Day. If you miss this deadline, you still have the option to pick up a Vote-by-Mail Ballot up to and including Election Day.
Ensure Your Vote by Mail Ballot Is Counted

If someone helps you fill out your ballot, make sure they mark your choice.

If you receive a vote-by-mail ballot and find you are able to go to the polls on election day, take your ballot with you. It will be voided by a poll worker, and you will be allowed to vote at the polls.

After voting, put your ballot in the secrecy envelope, then in the affidavit envelope provided. Print and sign your name in the proper locations on the back of the affidavit envelope. Your signature will be compared to the one on file in the Elections Office to verify its validity. Please make sure your VBM Ballot is in before 7 p.m. on Election Day. If you do not sign your affidavit envelope, your ballot cannot be counted.
Cure Your Unsigned Vote-by-Mail Ballot
If you forgot to sign your vote-by-mail ballot, submit a Vote-by-Mail Cure Affidavit.
Military Information
Military personnel, their spouses, and dependents may apply for voter registration or request a Vote-by-Mail Ballot with a Federal Post Card Application (which can be obtained from the Unit Voting Officer). US Embassies and Consulates can assist in completing, witnessing, and mailing Federal Post Cards, Vote-by-Mail Ballots, and other election materials.
